A business choosing to use a customer’s email to send mass amounts of advertising is not the biggest customer complaint but it is frequently mentioned. Customers find misuse of their emails to be more irritating than bad service in stores and men rank misuse of email as second only to an airline losing luggage. A customer choosing to leave a negative review concerning spam and advertising may not seem like an issue that businesses should worry about but a survey found that 88% of consumers have chosen to avoid a business over negative social media or online reviews. Email misuse and spamming is such a common and widespread problem that it could be having a very large impact on businesses, even though it isn’t really the largest customer service issue. Surprisingly the email issue is more of a concern for men. Women frequently do not even mention it, but the best policy is still to make sure customers feel their voices are heard and to respond to complaints.
