Distributed Denial of Service or DDoS is a cyber attack used to disrupt computers and networks. By disrupting the networks and in some cases holding the system hostage for ransom it causes real problems in a business. Using these commands to disrupt payroll software means that when payday rolls around some employees may not get their planned pay because the system was attacked and payroll payments stopped. If this problem were to occur on a Friday, most would not receive their pay until the following week when business has resumed and the problem fixed.
Key Takeaways:
- Distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS) affect businesses all over the globe in nearly every sector.
- Many companies end up having to pay a ransom to hackers when faced with a DDoS attack.
- DDoS attacks have been around for a while but are increasing recently and will continue to increase.
“Without a plan in place to mitigate a DDoS attack, many businesses may find themselves in the position of paying the ransom to avoid further damage.”
